Welcome to the 5th International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art (ICCCIA). It is with excitement and anticipation that we hold this event for the first time outside of America, providing a truly international dimension as we welcome visitors from many countries including Finland, Latvia, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Canada, America, Nigeria, China, England, Wales and Scotland.

The objective of the conference is to focus attention on the growing interest and use of cast iron in contemporary sculpture. The International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art provides a platform for artists, educators  and industry to exchange ideas, debate aesthetics, share and experience new experimental processes and technical developments.

Founded in 1986, and held every four years in the USA, the 2006 conference theme of 'Iron Bridging Art + Technology: past, present + future' has been dictated by its new location. This 5th Conference is being held at the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and home of over ten museums. When we first came together to discuss the possibility of staging this event in the United Kingdom it was the potential of exploiting the conceptual and historical links of the Ironbridge Gorge and Coalbrookdale sites that intrigued us.  We sought to explore and establish broader perspectives for the medium of cast iron art and have put together what we think is an exciting and challenging programme; promising a rich and stimulating four days for us all.

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to join us for this unique International Conference with delegates coming together from so many different artistic backgrounds of practice and approach.
